That's why they often say something like "best if used by:" There is only one packaged product on a supermarket shelves that has an actual expiration date on it, by federal law, and that is infant formula.
One way to help them is to drink more beer, so that their inventory rotates faster.
Sam Adams does not want their beer sold after the date stamped - the beer is drinkable, but not at it's best. Other breweries, certainly the big ones, don't care. What I said, accurately, was the term "expiration date" is misleading and widely misunderstood.
I even had a friend once point out that some beer had expired a month ago, without noticing that the date he was pointing at was actually the bottling date.
Nobody wants to take the loss on spoiled beer, it seems. At 6 months both bottled & canned beer kept at room temperature are most likely spoiled.
